Session 1: Planning and Discussion (+ coffee break), Skype was available for remote participants.

1. Introduction:

  • Welcome from Franz Simon, EI-GEO Project co-ordinator.
  • Tour de table – personal presentations of participants (education, experience, role in the project), 2-3 sentences.
  • Welcome and practical details of the Agenda – Boris Chubarenko, SIO RAS.
  • Welcome from representative of State Organization of the Kaliningrad region “Baltberegozaschita”, Eugenii Burnashov.
  • The institutes (SIO RAS, LHEI, BAM) should give each one presentation with relevant information (personnel, labs, projects etc.).

2. Workpackage 1:

  • Accelerated ageing (BAM):
  • Case study (SIO RAS):

Burnashov Eugeniy – Use of geosynthetic in the coastal protection constructions on the Baltic Sea shore of Kaliningrad Oblast’

Esiukova Elena, Boris Chubarenko – Case study in Kaliningrad: preliminary results and plans

Zobkov Mikhail – Methods of sampling in application to geosynthetic debris

3. Workpackage 2:

  • Ecotoxicological assessment (LHEI)
  • Particle transport (SIO RAS):

Andrey Sokolov – Results of previous studies of particulated material transport in the coastal zone of the Kaliningrad Oblast’.

Alexey Grave – Autonomous floats as an instruments to visualize and calibrate currents structure in the nearshore.

Igor Isachenko – Plans for development of parametrization of vertical transport for geosynthetic fragments including changes in their physical properties in time.

Session 2: Further work, outlook (+ coffee break, check-out)

  • Outlook WP 3 (all)
  • WP 4, Dissemination: planned publications (all)

Next meeting(s) (all)

 Summary of decisions:

    1. LHEI and SIO RAS have financial support and will fulfil plans for 2018, BAM is waiting the decision from German Government, a delay with planning activities is expected.
    2. Next meeting is planned for beginning of December in Riga, Latvia (to be confirmed in the autumn due to delay with BAB financing). Current communications – via e-mail and Skype.
    3. Participants are planning several publications. Joint publications with authors from different participated institutions are preferable. Team leaders will present the EI-GEO Project during 7th IEEE/OES Baltic Symposium “Clean and Safe Baltic Sea and Energy Security for the Baltic countries”. 12–15 June 2018 Klaipėda, Lithuania.
    4. Web site of the project will be developed by SIO RAS team.
